Gary Gunderson, the 2nd generation owner and President of Gunderson Family Companies, has been working in his family’s business since 1958. He is married to Judith Gunderson and has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. His sons, Greg and Doug, and his son-in-law, Ryan, are General Managers at divisions of Gunderson Family Companies. He feels fortunate not only because he takes pleasure in his industry, but that he also gets to enjoy his family each and every day.
Gunderson Family Companies was originally founded in 1952 by Gary’s father, Douglas E. Gunderson. Starting off, Gary worked part-time, and since, has held several positions in the various divisions, including Salesperson, Route Service Representative, Route Manager and Plant Manager. After earning his Associate of Arts degree in Business from Bryant & Stratton College in Milwaukee and developing experience in the linen and uniform industry, Gary applied his knowledge by becoming the co-founder and President of Central States Corporation cooperative in 1979. This national buying group, now known as CSCNetwork, has more than 175 members who are receiving the industries’ highest discounts with more than 75 vendors.
Having the opportunity to develop and build the family-owned, local business has given Gary a sense of honor, as he is, in-turn, able to give back to his community. He is on the Board of Directors for VNAA (Visiting Nurses Association of America), the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, US Bank, and Junior Achievement Wisconsin, and is President of the Menasha Business Association. The Gunderson Family Companies are also involved in many outreach programs, such as the Coats for Kids, Community Clothes Closet and United Way. In business and in life, Gary believes in treating others with respect, integrity and honesty, which is reflected throughout his company.
