Frequently Asked Questions

I just spilled on my clothing. Is it ruined?

Not necessarily. But, when you wet a napkin or cloth to clean the spot, do not rub. Rubbing will rough-up the fabric, dulling the dye and breaking fibers. If your item is washable, use a little water to dilute the spot. Then stop! If your item is dry clean only, use a dry napkin or cloth to blot the spot. Then stop!Bring your item in to have it professionally cleaned as soon as possible.

What is dry cleaning? How do you clean my clothes without water?

Dry cleaning is a process that uses solvents to lift soil from fabric. It does not use water or penetrate the fabric. This process is much gentler on clothing than water. Using this method, garments made from fabrics, such as wool or silk, can be cleaned safely and extend their life, all without shrinking.

My dry cleaner turned my white shirt beige. How did this happen? Can you fix it?

Poor cleaning processes can cause discoloration. Dry cleaners must maintain their solvent in good condition with filtration and distilling. Impurities left in solvents will be re-deposited on other items being cleaned, dulling the brightness or yellowing the fabric. It is sometimes possible to restore the garment to the original condition. Washing (if washable), re-dry cleaning or other methods could repair your item. Check with a dry cleaner you trust.

What types of fabrics should be dry cleaned?

Garments made of acetate, cashmere, leather, linen, rayon, silk, suede and wool should usually be dry cleaned. Check the care label on any acrylic, nylon and polyester pieces, as these too often require dry cleaning.

Can I hand wash pieces that say “dry clean only” on the label?

In most cases, it’s best to follow the care instructions listed on a garment’s label. If an item says “dry clean only”, hand or machine washing with water can damage the fabric or cause problems with colors fading or pieces losing their shape.

If I have matching garments, should they be dry cleaned together?

Although fading is rare or minimal, it’s a good idea to have your matching pieces dry cleaned at the same time to reduce any color variation.

What is wet cleaning or laundering?

Wet cleaning (or laundering) is a term used for cleaning in water. Like dry cleaning, the wet cleaning process begins with spot/stain treatment. After cleaning, garments, such as button-down dress shirts, are put through a series of presses while damp, to give them a crisp, professional finish.

Why send my clothes out for cleaning, instead of doing it at home?

There are several reasons to send your items to a professional. The most important is to extend the life of your clothing by letting expert cleaners do the work. Dry cleaning also helps maintain garment quality. The dry cleaning process is gentler and will remove stains and soils that can damage fabrics, if left untreated.

How does spot cleaning work?

When a garment is spot cleaned, only the area with staining or spotting is cleaned and the work is done by hand. This process is recommended for garments too delicate to withstand full dry cleaning methods.

How should I store my garments after they’ve been dry cleaned?

Pieces will be returned to you in plastic bags for safe handling. These bags should be removed when storing. We will happily recycle your plastic and hangers for you.
